Eastern
Uganda is well endowed with plenty of natural attractions which will leave you
wishing to visit the country again. To visit these wonderful attractions, you
need to visit using a rented car. When you do this, you will explore these
attractions and provide you will all well serviced vehicles which will then
enable you to visit all the parts of the country when on a self drive or a
guided tour. The region has got very diverse culture with distinct rituals
which are performed for many hundreds of years that you can explore on yourself drive. The most renowned
ceremony of this kind is the Imbalu ceremony among the Bagisu people. They are
also commonly known as the Bamasaba people of Eastern Uganda. During this
ritual, the boys are turned into men.
Apart from that, this region
has also got the world’s largest mountain caldera which is found on Mount Elgon. It is gazetted as a National
park for both Ugandans and Kenyas. When your are exploring Eastern Uganda, you
will visit Mount Elgon National park which is about 1,145 square kilometers.
This usually includes the shell of an extinct volcano, although hot springs
still bubble on the caldera floor, on the border with Kenya. Wagagai is the
highest peak and it is 4,321m above sea level, making it the fourth highest
mountain in East Africa. There are also rugged slopes, with their spectacular
waterfalls, caves, hot springs and mountain vegetation, making it a wonderful
and exciting area to explore using self drive. When you are in the park, expect
to see animals including buffalo, duiker, tree hyrax and
leopard. Of recent, elephants have returned to the area from Kenya. There are
also many other primates in the area. There is abundant birdlife in the area, including
the Ross’ Turaco, hornbills, and the Crowned Eagle.
Among the Bamasaba people,
the Imbalu ceremony practice is also mandatory. If you are found abscondering,
you will be always hunted down and circumcised involuntarily. The event is very across the Eastern region
especially in the areas occupied by the Bagisu. These areas do involve much of dancing commonly known as
Kadodi their famous and many other great
feats which are performed during this festival. Commonly this ceremony occurs
every even year and it’s so interesting especially on a Uganda safari to the
eastern region of the country.
Away from the Imbalu
ceremony on your safari, you will also explore the Sipi Falls which are found
in Kapchorwa is a district. This district is also found in Eastern part and it
her neigbours are Sironko and Mbale. There lies the Mount Elgon National Park
and it is at its edge that you will embrace the Sipi waterfalls. The falls has got 3 (three) series of the waterfalls
which make up the Sipi falls.
Another commonest activity you will enjoy during your visit to Eastern
using a self drive is bull fighting. After you have rented a car, it will
enable you to witness Bull fighting also considered as the most unique tourist
attractions in the region. The Namasho playing field near Bulucheke secondary
school is where the fights happen, though places like Nabukasala in Bushika Sub
County have also recently instituted their own bull fights. The day designated
for the fights is Saturday but fortnightly. As a pointer to the grueling bull
fights that have unfolded in Namasho, there are apertures all over the
playground. Usually, the braved, chilly and misty weather on the March 28 to
stand a free treat of the spectacle. Bull fighting enthusiasts from different parts
of Bududa had gathered in droves despite the cold weather. No one seemed to
