Mpanga forest is an eco-tourism site located in Mpigi district. It lies 37 kilometers from the city center of Kampala in Uganda 

Driving from Kampala
This site can be easily accessed through the main Kampala-Masaka High way which is about 1.5 drive from the city. After you will see the branch road to Mpigi town, then continue driving the highway about 6 kilometer up until you fine the “Mpanga eco-tourism site” sign board.

The eco-tourism site is approximately 1 kilometer from the sign board. The road leading to Mpanga is dirt though it is mainly well maintained throughout the year. Using public transportation, you can take a Matatu where you can share the taxi from the taxi from Kampala to Buwama town. You will tell the conductor you are visiting that you are visiting the Mpanga eco-tourism site, so that they are able to take you and tell where to get off from. The closest taxi stage is called “Mpambire” where you will see drum makers along Kampala –Masaka road.

The forest walk and entry fees in Mpanga.

You will have to pay at the front desk with cash you enter whichever you are accompanied with a guide or not, if you wish to enter the forest. You are expected to pay the following entrance and forest walk. In case you wish to have a guide, you will make a reservation to avoid dis appointments because there are no many guides at the site.

There are 3 trails available for you. You can walk the base line without a guide or have to pay the forest walk fee. In case you like to walk the Butterfly and the Hornbill trails, you should be accompanied with the guide. Choose the trail you would like to walk and tell the guide

What to wear, bring

you are advised to wear a long sleeve shirts, long pants to avoid being bitten by insects. A cap, trekking shoes and rain wear are also significant items to bring. Carry a mobile phone, water and first aid kit case of emergency. Binoculars and cameras would be good companions to enhance your interest in nature.

-      Keep walking on trails

-      Bring nothing from the site and leave nothing on the site

-      Respect right and interests of the adjacent community, property owners and people who may have traditional rights over their own land or wish to restrict certain activities practices or access.

 


To keep and protect yourself, you are expected to recognize the risk in the activities and ensure that you have the knowledge, skills and physical fitness to participate. Get trained, be properly equipped and if necessary, be prepared to deal with an emergency situation until professional help arrives. Seek and heed advice from your guides and tourism operators concerning risks and how to prepare them.
