Where to find the Gorillas in
Uganda?
Gorillas
are found in two national parks in Uganda. These two national parks are Bwindi
Impenetrable National park and Mgahinga gorilla National park. The biggest
number of mountain gorillas are found in Bwindi Impenetrable National park. In
the whole world, this park hosts the largest number of endangered mountain
gorillas. It is believed that almost half of the remaining gorillas in the
world are found in Bwindi Impenetrable national park.
How do
gorillas resemble.
Gorillas
do resemble human beings. They do share almost 95 of the genes with the human
beings. They spend most of their day in forest, eating leaves and trunks of
leaves. The head of the gorilla group is called silver back and it is usually a
male gorilla. This is responsible for each gorilla family. In each family,
there is one silverback and the rest are females.
The time
required for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga gorilla
national park.
During
the time when you meet the gorillas, you will be required to spend only four
hours with these endangered apes. This is for both gorilla habituation experience
and gorilla trekking expedition. During these four hours, you will spend them
viewing the gorillas and photographing then with your camera. Remember the
gorilla trekking and habituation experience start at 7:30 am. After any of the experience being it gorilla
habituation or trekking, you will have to return in the afternoon
What is required on the day of gorilla habituation experience or
trekking?
Whether it is gorilla trekking or gorilla
habituation experience, you will be required to wake up early in the morning at
your lodge and have a leisurely breakfast. After breakfast, you will be
required to go to the trekking point; of course this should not be very far
from the place where you spent the night from, the previous night. This is why
you are required to book according to your gorilla tracking family. Upon
arrival at the starting point, you will be briefed by officials who will be
found at the station at the point. These are officials do come from Uganda
Wildlife Authority and they belong to Uganda Wildlife Authority staff. There is
also a research habituation research team which will also be found at the
station.
Which groups are habituated for viewing in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest?
Within Bwindi Impenetrable National forest,
there are only 2 (two) habituated groups which are good for viewing. These
gorilla groups are Biking and Bushaho gorilla families all located in the
Bwindi Impenetrable national park. Of course for you to experience the gorilla
habituation experience you should be
part of the four (4) members. 4 members are allowed to go on each group and
there are 8 members who allowed to experience the gorilla habituation
experience.
The difference between gorilla habituation experience and gorilla
trekking.
During gorilla trekking, eight (8) members are
allowed in each group. On the other hand, the gorilla habituation experience
takes four (4) members in each group for viewing. However, in both process,
whether gorilla habituation experience or gorilla trekking, you will be required
to spend 4 hours with any of the gorilla family. The prices however differ for
both processes that is for gorilla trekking you have to pay USD 600 while for
gorilla habituation experience, you need to pay USD 1500.
What is required of Gorilla trekking and gorilla habituation
experience?
For both process, the same requirements and rules
are required. The processes you go through gorilla trekking are the same way
you will go through for gorilla habituation experience.
