In Uganda, many people do pretend to be good
drivers when in actual sense do possess the standard qualification of driving
in the country. You should be very sensitive and critical when you are
selecting or picking on someone to drive you during your safari. If choose
badly, then you might end up not enjoying your safari as earlier anticipated.
Always look for the best during your safari and not the worst as this worst
things will spoil your safari or tour. There are many good and qualified
drivers in the country thus it will shameful to say that you have failed to get
a good driver to drive through your safari when you are in Uganda.
Basically, a good driver should be a Ugandan
by birth and should be residing within the boundaries of the country. He must
have lived in the country for at least 10 years and should be above 18 years of
age. This person must be a law abiding citizen of the country and should not in
case be found guilty of any criminal offence within the country or outside the
country.
Before you decide to hire a car, it is very
wise to look for the qualifications of the driver you are going to use on your
journey. When assessing the qualification, you should look for drivers with
good language skills, a valid and up to date driving permit, good training
experience and he should look health. A good guide in this case will be in
position to speak several of the local languages within the country. He should
ably be in position to communicate in at least 3(three) international
languages. He should be having full knowledge of the car you have rented and
should ably be in position to drive the both the automatic and manual
transmission cars.
Remember you will be in a country which is
not you home country. You are highly recommended to get a diver with all the
qualities to avoid being embarrassed on the way as you are being driven. You
might face a number of challenges like being stopped on the way by traffic
officers where the driver will be required to present his legal documents.
Failure to do that, that means the car will be confiscated and you will have to
pay some money to the traffic officers to allow you continue along with your
safari or journey.
Very perfect training is required of the
driver who will be taking along your
safari. The training should be about the traffic rules within the country. You
should be an expert in the all the traffic rules and signs in the country. This
will be part of your professionalism as a good and acknowledgeable driver. As
the saying goes, that experience is the best teacher, a good driver should be
experienced. Experience should be in the number of years one might have spent
when driving. Look for drivers who have driven cars for quiet along period of
time.
Not forgetting is that a good driver should have a good appeance.
Avoid picking on people which bad appearances as these may be referred to as
thugs. Appearance should originate physical structure to the way people are
dressed. To be in position to get a
good drive, do not waste a lot of time. Just visit any genuine tour and travel
company in the country. They will readily avail you with a good driver who will
drive you throughout your safari.
