Information about Money in Uganda; The Best Tips On Foreign Exchange, Credit Cards, Transfers and Travelers’ Cheques.

The acceptable currencies in Uganda include; the Uganda shillings which takes the denomination of Ush 50,000, 20,000,10,000,5,000, 2,000, 1,000 and coins in 500, 200, 100, 50 Ush. This currency is relatively a stable currency though it some floats against the dollar, Euro and Britain Pound.  This currency can readily available at all forex bureaus in Uganda. Other acceptable notes include; United States Dollar, Britain Pound, Euro among other currencies.
What travelers should note about the Ugandan currency.
As a new person in the country, you should note that the bank of Uganda since April 2010 has printed new bills with same denominations though with completely different looks. During this time, the 2000 note was brought into circulation.  It phased out old currencies including the 1000, 5000 and 10,000 notes and brought in new notes. The government of Uganda was planning to bring a 100,000 note though it is not yet in circulation by the bank of Uganda. However the money issued by forex bureaus in Uganda is genuine notes. You should avoid going on streets to exchange money as you might be given fake notes.
The foreign exchange and Uganda money exchange tips.
In case you are carrying foreign currencies in Uganda like American dollars, Britain sounds and euro, you can readily convert these currencies in any forex bureau. When you are  at a private forex bureau, it will take you about  5(five) minutes to make a transaction. You will not be required to have a passport or any other documentation
About the Uganda banks
Uganda has got several international banks. The notable international banks in the country include; Standard chartered bank, Barclays bank among others. These banks are open from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm from Monday to Saturday.  When you are in Kampala, which is Uganda’s capital city, several of these banks will be seen. As you shopping in Ugandans shopping malls, like Acacia Mall, Speke Hotel, Garden City shopping mall and the Grand Imperial Hotel which are open seven days a week you will find banks and also you will be in position to exchange your money into local currencies.
What to do in case you exchange more money than required.
After you have exchanged money from the forex bureau and you eventually find out that the money you exchanged is more than what you needed during your stay in Uganda, you are advised to there and then convert it back into the foreign currency. This will help you to keep your money safe. Of course when you carry the Ugandan notes back from Uganda to your country of origin, then this money will be rendered useless until when you come back to Uganda that is when you will be in position to spend this money.
Giving out tips
Giving out tips will be up to you. However, you should not give out a lot of money as tip. Give relatively small amounts of money as tips.
