What
is the proportion of the mountain gorillas living in Uganda?
Presently, there
are over half of the mountain gorillas in the whole world living in Uganda.
Following the current census results which were released by the Minister of Tourism Wildlife and
Antiquities, these great apes have greatly increased in number thus making the activity of mountain gorilla viewing a sustainable activity in the country in the national parks of
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mghahinga gorilla National park. These have been
gazatted into 36 gorilla families which are ready for viewing as long as you have a gorilla permit issued by Uganda
Wildlife Authority in Uganda. Of course there are other countries which are
found in the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), however, due to the fact that
Uganda has got the highest number of mountain gorillas, it has become easier to
track the gorillas in Uganda since there are even groups which have been habituated for
viewing.

and Mghahinga Gorilla national park.
There are 36
gorilla families in the national parks of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and
Mghahinga gorilla national park ready for viewing by tourists. Out of
these 36 families, only 11 have been
habituated and these can be accesses by tourists or visitors any time they
wish. Out of these groups, there are un
predictable groups in Mgahinga gorilla national park which keep on crossing the
boarders to the Democratic Republic of Congo and to the Republic of Rwanda thus
making these families unpredictable for viewing when you are in the mghahinga
gorilla national park.
What time is being recommended for gorilla viewing under the
habituation process?
Well, when
you opt to go for the gorilla
habituation process, it will take you a
2 to 3 hours when you are with these gorillas. The habituation process
in Uganda takes 2 years and during this time, the gorillas get used to the
human beings which are regarded as closest relatives to the human beings. When tourists
or visitors visit these mountain gorillas under the habituation process,
they will remain doing their usual
things as the humans who will be tourists and visitors will be viewing them.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority
conservation rules guarantees on 8 adults to go under the habituation
process each day. It also avails 88 gorilla tracking permits each day along
with 8 for the other park called Mghahinga gorilla national park making them 96
permits each day.
Behaviors of the gorillas under this
process.
Under this process, the gorillas do move to
new places and this therefore means that they cannot stay in one place two
times. To view the gorillas under this
process, you must be having a gorilla
permit which is issued by the Uganda
Wildlife Authority, the main issuing board of the gorilla permits.
