Planning
for a Gorilla trekking expedition is not an easy task. This is because of the
various procedures involved during this gorilla trekking expedition. If well
planned, it will become a memorable activity you will ever participate in
Africa and the world as a whole. Remember it was until 1902 when mountain
gorillas came to be known by the people. When gorillas where first established
in Uganda, tourists were not allowed to be trek them, until there came a time
when you the activity was officially legalized. This activity was officially
legalized in the two major national parks of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and
Mghahinga gorilla national forest.
Before
you start planning for this activity, you will need to seek prior information
concerning how the expedition is
carried out. If you are going to participate in photography, then you will have
to seek prior information to be allowed to take photographs when you are with
these endangered species. When you are in presence with these gorillas, you
will be allowed to spend some good time. And this will be the best opportunity
for photography. The silver back which is the male gorilla heads the gorilla
group and will be very interesting to watch after you have reached the gorilla
family which is indicated on your gorilla permit you will be allowed to spend
some time with the gorillas though you are not allowed to touch them.
The
Mountain gorillas in Uganda are not found in a Zoo but rather in National
parks. For the case of Uganda, they are found in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and
Mgahinga Gorilla National park, all of which are located in southwestern
Uganda, bordering the republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In case you do not wish to track the gorillas in Uganda, you can opt to go to
the Republic of Rwanda and the
Democratic Republic of Congo.
The
number of mountain gorillas in Uganda is increasing tremendously. This has been
attributed to the fact that there are laws which have been geared towards
protection. The type of protection has been enhanced by the government of
Uganda. In her protections measures, she has involved the local community which
do surround the park to get involved in
conservation and protection measures. They are not allowed to get involved in
poaching which can easily lead to their extinction. They also protect the park
from deforestation and being encroached
for agriculture.
There
are various gorilla families which have been habituated under the process of
gorilla habituation process. This allows you to go and see these gorillas under
this category as you need to obtain a gorilla habituation permit. The other
option is the gorilla trekking experience; this will involve you to obtain a
gorilla trekking permit. These two permits are different as you can clearly
see, the gorilla habituation process and gorillas trekking permit.
Some
information you need to know about the gorillas of Uganda is that they do
resemble human beings. They have genetic composition which are similar to those
of human beings where they share almost 98 percent of the genes with the human
beings. Their fur is longer than those of human beings. The hair on their back
is shorter than most of the other body parts and they are diurnal animals
whereby they are active during day time, waking up at 6:00 a.m and retiring at
6:00 p.m. The females become sexually mature at 7-8 years old though they start
breeding until several years have passed. They spend most their time during the
day time eating leaves of bamboos and trucks.
