In
this park, you will participate in is Gorilla trekking. This will be carried
out alongside other activities including bird watching which is carried out
along the edge of the park, nature walks to the Garama cave and viewing
platform. There is also a volcano hiking and Golden monkey trekking. All these
activities will give you a memorable experience which you will never forget in
your life time
It is quite a long distance to
access this park since it is not located in the proximity of the city. The park
can be accessed after a drive of 9 hours from Kampala or 1.5 hours flight from
Entebbe with a shuttle plain. Depending on the means which is convenient for
you, you can use it either road or air transport. Both forms of transportation will make you
reach this destination safely and return back to your country of origin safely
too.
After
Mgahinga Gorilla National park, you can opt to cross the other side of the
Republic of Rwanda. You can also opt to trek the mountain gorillas of Rwanda
where you will need to obtain a gorilla permits from the Republic of Rwanda
Mgahinga Gorilla National park is the smallest national park which is located
in South Western Uganda. It covers an area of about 33.7 square kilometers.
When you are approaching to the east, the huge cones of the volcanoes start to
dominate the landscape. This forest park is part of the great Virunga conservation area and it covers the northern
slopes of three volcanoes which include; the Muhavura range which occupies
4,127 meters, Mt. Sabinyo which covers 3,645 meters and the Mt. Gahinga which
covers 3,474 meters. This gorilla park is bordered to the south by the Republic
of Rwanda and to the west by the Democratic republic of Congo and each of these
countries protects its own portion of the virunga range conservation area. Just
as Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga Gorilla national park experiences two
seasons which include the wet seasons of February to May and September to
December. There are also average monthly rains which are experienced in July
with a minimum being 250 mm.
As
opposed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which has got many gorilla families and
groups for tracking and for viewing under the habituation experience, Mgahinga
gorilla national park has got one main gorilla family which has been habituated
for viewing. This gorilla group or family is called the Nyakagezi group. This
group roams around the international boarders and of course this is the border
which make up the conservation area where the gorillas are found. As you visit
this habituated gorilla group, you will
come across the golden monkeys which is an endemic species. You will
enjoy viewing this golden monkey species while in Mgahinga gorilla national
park.
The
main outstanding which costs 750 USD. There are also other primates you will
see which include chimpanzees and golden monkeys. You will also visit Dian
Fossey Yard in the republic of Rwanda. You can decide to visit Queen Elizabeth
Park passing through the Ishasha area. At this point, you will see the tree
climbing lions. When you are in Queen Elizabeth National park, which is a
savannah park, you will participate in
game drives which will give you a good opportunity to view a number of
animals including the tree lions, elephants and buffaloes. You will also
participate in boat cruise along the Kazinga channel. This will enable you view
a number of bird species as you driven in the boat by the captain.
