Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
is a tropical rain forest and a home of half of the world’s endangered mountain
gorillas. It is a national park gazette under the government of Uganda. It is
strategically located in the South Western part of the country. It lies on the
borders of the democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda. It
means that it is has the same features with the virunga national park. The park
is composed of approximately 331 square kilometers of the
forest. In its composition, there is Montane
and lowland forest. These forests cannot be accessed by a car. You will only
access these forests when you are on foot. It is one the sites under UNESCO
heritage site that means that it is internationally recognized as a heritage
site.
As early as 1964, it was prior designated
as an animal sanctuary. In this regard, it was meant to provide extra
protection to the endangered mountain gorillas which had been found to be
existing in the park. Later after, it was renamed Impenetrable Central Forest
reserve after gorilla it was established that gorillas inhabited in that
forest. Currently, the park is located
on 331 square kilometers away from the main road. It is composed of composed of
two blocks of the forest that are connected by a small corridor of the forest
Of present,
the park is a home of about 120 species including the endangered mountain
gorillas. Approximately 348 bird species have been recorded in the park with
100 flowering plants which acts as a habitant of some of these bird species and
mammals. To herbalists and researchers, the park is a home of 163 species of
trees which include medicinal plants and 104 species of ferns. This clearly
shows that Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park in very rich in
biodiversity. Squaring down to primates, half of the world’s mountain gorillas
are found in this national park. As you track the gorillas, you will come
across other primates like the colobus monkeys and chimpanzees within the same
forest. The gorillas found in the park fall under habituated gorilla groups and
those which are in families, roaming normally in the wilderness. The most
notable group you cannot afford to miss viewing and those which will be
included on your permit include; Mubare, Habinyanja, Rushegura and the Nkuringo
group. These are a few of the other groups of habituated gorillas. There are 8
groups which are found in the same forest.
In conclusion therefore, because
its ecological importance, the park has been considered as to be rich with a
number of tree species and animals including birds, butterflies and reptiles being
found in the impenetrable forest. It is the park you will go to participate in
gorilla trekking and you finally see them in the wilderness at take some photos
of them as you will be allowed to spend some time with them. Apart from the
endangered mountain gorillas, you will also view chimps, L’Hoest monkeys,
African elephants, African green broad bill, cream banded swallowtail, black
and white colobus, red tailed monkeys, vervets and the giant forest hog. This
will give you a rich wildlife viewing within this forest. This very hard to
find a travel company in Uganda selling a safari without including Bwindi
Impenetrable Forest on the travel itinerary. Some tourism travel by air to
Rwanda and come to track the gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. It is much
wiser in this way because the journey from Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable
Forest National Park is long as compared to when you are transferred from
Kigali to Bwindi.
